About
I'm Andrew. I've spent about a decade in the trades as an HVAC, plumbing and generator technician, mostly around Tulsa. On the plumbing side I pay special attention to hot water, and on the power side, whole-home standby generators.
Read the field notes
- 1. Start with a guide: a plain-English answer to one question.
- 2. Use a tool when it helps: free helpers, no account needed.
- 3. Know where a pro takes over: each guide names the boundary.
- 4. Not sure? A pro can take it from here. This is educational information, not a diagnosis.
Why this site exists
The topics here come from homeowners I have helped. Most of those questions had a simple answer and a safe first check. A few had a "please step away from the panel" answer. The goal is to help you tell those apart before you spend money or take a risk.
I keep learning, and the guides get better when I do. This site is here to help you avoid costly mistakes and decide with more confidence.
How to use it
Start with the guide that matches what your house is doing. Use a tool when it saves you a step. When a guide says a licensed pro should take over, that is not a sales pitch. It is the line where your safety matters more than the do-it-yourself win.
HomeSmarter is educational. It does not replace a technician who can see your equipment.
